Your data stays yours

Flow State stores your habit data locally on your device. We do not sell your data or use it for advertising. The only time your data leaves your device is when you choose to use the AI Coach โ€” and only the minimum necessary is sent.

1. What We Collect

Flow State collects only what the app needs to work. Here is an exact breakdown:

Habit names
The names and descriptions of habits you create โ€” e.g., "Morning Run" or "Read 30 min." Stored locally on your device.
Streaks & completions
Daily completion records, current streak count, longest streak, and per-habit completion rates. Stored locally on your device.
AI chat messages
Messages you send to the AI Coach and the responses you receive. Transmitted to Anthropic during your session only โ€” not stored on our servers.
App preferences
Your notification settings, theme choices, and onboarding status. Stored locally on your device.
Support contact
If you email us, we receive your email address and the content of your message. Used only to respond to you.
Anonymous analytics
Aggregate, non-identifiable usage events (e.g., "AI Coach opened") to help us improve the app. Cannot be linked back to you. You can opt out in iOS Settings.

We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, location, contacts, or any biometric data.

2. AI Coaching, AI Insights & Anthropic

Flow State uses Anthropic's Claude โ€” a third-party AI service โ€” to power two features: the AI Coach, and AI Insights in the Analytics tab.

AI Coach. When you send a message to the Coach, the following data is transmitted securely to Anthropic's API:

AI Insights. When you open the Insights section of the Analytics tab, your habit names, completion rates, current streaks, and day-of-week activity patterns are automatically sent to Anthropic's API to generate a personalized summary. This happens when the tab is opened, without requiring you to type a message.

We do not transmit your Apple ID, name, email, payment information, or any data not listed above.

Retention. We do not store your chat messages or Insights data on our servers. Once a request completes, it is not retained by us. Anthropic may retain data for a limited period in accordance with their own privacy policy โ€” see anthropic.com/legal/privacy.

Both of these features are available to Gold subscribers only. If you are on the Free tier, no data is ever sent to Anthropic.

3. How Your Data Is Used

We use the data we collect only for the following purposes:

We do not use your data for advertising. We do not sell your data to any third party.

4. Data Storage & Security

On-device storage. Your habits, streaks, and completion records are stored locally on your iPhone or iPad using iOS secure storage (AsyncStorage backed by the iOS Keychain where applicable).

iCloud backup. If you have iCloud backup enabled, your habit data is included in your device backup and encrypted by Apple. Flow State itself does not operate a cloud sync service.

AI sessions. Chat messages are sent over an encrypted HTTPS connection to Anthropic's API. They are not written to any database on our end.

Data loss. Because your data lives on your device, uninstalling the app or resetting your phone will permanently delete your habit history. We recommend enabling iCloud backup to protect against this.

5. Your Rights

You have the following rights over your data. Because most data lives on your device, many of these you can exercise directly within the app or via your iOS settings โ€” no request to us needed.

Access
All your habit data is visible within the app at any time. You can export a full copy from the App's settings screen.
Deletion
Delete individual habits in-app, or delete all data by uninstalling. To request deletion of any server-side data, email us.
Correction
Edit your habit names, emoji, or schedule at any time from the Habits screen.
Portability
Export your full habit history in JSON or CSV format from the App's settings at any time.
Opt-out of analytics
Disable anonymous analytics collection in iPhone Settings โ†’ Privacy & Security โ†’ Tracking, or within the App's settings.
AI data
Don't use the AI Coach if you prefer not to send any data to Anthropic. Session data is not retained by us.

6. Subscriptions & Billing

Flow State Gold subscriptions are purchased and managed entirely through Apple's App Store. We never see your credit card number, bank details, or any payment information.

Apple provides us with a non-identifiable token to confirm your subscription status. This token does not contain your name or email address. Subscription management is handled through your Apple ID account settings.

RevenueCat, our subscription management library, processes the Apple receipt on our behalf. RevenueCat's privacy policy is available at revenuecat.com/privacy.

7. Analytics

We collect anonymous, aggregated usage events โ€” for example, how often the AI Coach is opened or which habit completion screen is used most. These events cannot be linked to you as an individual.

We do not use third-party ad networks or analytics services that track you across other apps or websites. You can opt out of all analytics collection in your iOS Settings.

9. Children's Privacy

Flow State is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has used the App and shared data, please contact us at support@flowstateapp.io and we will take prompt action to delete that data.
